The Bracket Racket

Uncategorized

I know I did a Big East cartoon last week, but little did I know they would actually have 11 teams make the tournament. I think it’s ridiculous. Sure, they play solid basketball, but 11 teams is a bit excessive. So I did this one for ESPN.com on Monday. Feel free to rant about the injustice of it all.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I think its silly to have 11 teams from any conference in the tournament, but if you look at the teams that play in the big east its hard to argue that they don’t belong. They might be living on reputation from the past and all that but if you look at the teams louisville, u conn, west virginia, notre dame, cincinnati, pitt, georgetown, all ranked teams maybe on reputation but as they used to say in commercials, paraphrasing “there in there” (RAGU). and there might be an east coast bias as in no one plays basketball better than they do on the east coast but the tournament has a way of weeding out the pretenders, as it will again this year.

It could be a fun weekend if the promised rain comes and I have to keep the bike in the basement!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Dear Drew,

I made these comments with the original cartoon and I still stand by them. I think NO team should be in the NCAA tournament if they don’t win at least half of their conference games. After all if they can’t even win half of their games what makes people believe they can be the #1 team in the country?

This would pretty much stop things like the 11 teams from the Big East fiasco, and I do stl consider that a fiasco. It would also give more non Big-6 conference teams a chance to go to the dance.

All the best (and GO Old Dominion Monarchs!!!!)

  3. If you’re not in the top half of the teams in your conference, you don’t belong in the conversation for the national title.

  4. He’s followed the game all his life, and is buddies with Christano Ronaldo, Kaka and Thierry Henry. KC is giving him a four-day trial…which overlaps with their season opener against Chivas USA. I doubt he’ll see any playing time, even off the bench, but if the tryout goes ok, they’ll extend the trail period. And, just for legal purposes, since there is a lockout, any contract restrictions on him playing other sports go out the window.

It may seem like a publicity stunt, but he’s not a neophite to the game, and is a serious trainer. Kansas City is also under pressure to make things happen on the field this season.

Here’s the link to the story on the team website: http://www.sportingkc.com/news/2011/03/chad-ochocinco-tryout-sporting-kc

If nothing else, MLS will be a lot more lenient on his goal celebrations than the NFL would be. That might be your cartoon angle right there!

  5. Dear Drew,

Pele, Beckham, Ocho-Cinco. Doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue does it.

    All the best
