The Untimely Passing of Kenny McKinley

Uncategorized

I had a cartoon drawn on a completely different topic, but it doesn’t seem appropriate now. Last night I attended a benefit for the Darrent Williams Youth Center hosted by Champ Bailey and John Lynch when word spread that the Broncos had lost another young player to a tragic death. Kenny McKinley will be missed. So forgive me today if I just don’t post. Instead, maybe it’s time to reflect on how we can save more of our precious kids from violence and lost hope.

  1. good morning from Omaha,

even public people have private demons.

Please, hug your friends, your family and yes, even your enemies.

We will never know the demons that haunted this person but can work at keeping those demons

    from harming our loved ones.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Nice sentiment Gene and something we should all keep in mind.

So sad. Just be kind, let go of hate and grudges, it’s just not worth it.

God Bless you Kenny, may you find the peace you were seeking.

  3. Dear Mr. Litton,

I’m not sure how this will sound as I type this but I’ll say it anyway and hope people will understand.

When I heard about the death of McKinley I found myself wondering if he suffered from the same brain trauma (forgive spelling)that caused professional wrestler Chris Benoit to lose it killing himself, his wife and child.

Football by its nature is a violent sport. With teams running almost year round camps and the players getting bigger and stronger. Just how much more is the brain subject to abuse and damage?

Unlike Darrent Williams who was murdered by another person, or Damien Nash whose heart attack could be summed up as bad fortune, McKinley did this to himself. He pulled the trigger to end his life (as opposed to Williams who was shot by another). The injury that has him on IR was not life threatening unless somebody knows something here I don’t.

I’ve lost two people to suicide. In both case even all these years later I never understood why. My sympathy to the McKinley family.

    all the best

    Louis
