Trashed: The 2011 NCAA Bracket

Uncategorized

I’m not quite sure why mankind insists on torturing itself. Golf is bad enough. But then along came the heinous and cruel tournament brackets. Like lemmings the entire population of the United States has followed this annual ritual right off the proverbial cliff. Along the way we are ridiculed, humiliated and embarrassed. Oh, sure. Some really lucky sap eventually wins the office pool. Someone has to. Mostly because everybody else crashes and burns along the way, because of teams like Virginia Commonwealth who turn the entire process into total turmoil and chaos and render the whole thing an exercise in complete futility. Why do we do this? For fun. Personally, I’d rather agonize trying to swat a stupid little white ball 7000 yards into a little bitty hole the size of a dime. At least the walk is nice.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Mark twain supposedly said that golf was a good walk spoiled. After the way my bracket comes out, I have 10 of the sweet 16, and not the ultimate winner of the whole thing, whats the point. Last summer I participated in a 36 hole in one day golf tournament. I had not play any golf last summer so you know how I did. Thank goodness the worst you could do was par x 2.

the course was out in a rural area of NE, ok thats a bit redundant, but it was nice to get out. And while they offered carts I made it a point to walk and relieve my frustration with my bad golf game.

IN the meantime the games of the NCAA will continue, whether I watch them or not. with the internet and espn once again I can catch the highlights. fresh air and sunshine is still the cure for what ails you, most of the time.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Gene,

Great stuff. I loved the rural Nebraska line. Very funny! Golf…the ultimate torture.

  3. Aren’t both of these endeavors supposed to be for enjoyment? What am I missing? Why is being right, good, and winning so important? These are both opportunities for social interaction, to hone your skills, yes, and get better at them. Oh wait, that’s a female perspective……..

  4. Fourth toon in a week about the Bracket! Mix it up a little!

Upsets! Buzzer Beaters! Pitt Goes Down! VCU and Richmond advance! Butler’s on another run! Coach K gets #900! Lots of subplots outside of the office pool here…

  5. Dear Drew,

There are only two things left for me to enjoy in this years NCAA tournament. #1 For the BYU team to win it all like I predicted. #2 for every team from the Big East to choke the big one so none of them make the final 4.

If #2 happens I’ll be laughing like a hyena all the way through the rest of the tournament.

    All the best

    Louis

  6. GMFO-

go BYU cougars!!!! the Jimmer is a winner! Louis, once again thanks for the tip on ODU–when I needed to burn a choice and did not know who to pick, I listen to my friends.Or my son…

ITs that time of year again…baseball starts in a week, the golf courses are starting to open, maybe I will play some this year, the lakes are starting to defrost and once the weather warms some, its going to be fishing time.

I can’t explain to sherri- that drive to do better and best your friends. hunter gatherers vs nurturers…we all have a place in this world. see ya;ll in the morning.

    Gene
