What is the NFL thinking?

And now we resume our regular programming

Mr. Limbaugh is now out of the picture in the bid for the Rams so I think that’s my cue to get back to your regularly scheduled cartoon.

Is it just me or do all these throwback uniforms start to get a little unnerving. Half the time you can’t tell which team the throwback uniforms represent. It’s made even more confusing by teams that are in Tennessee wearing uniforms that belong in Houston and the Chiefs playing as the Dallas Texans vs. the Dallas Cowboys. It’s all designed to send us to running to the nearest sports store to buy an ugly yellow jersey that just a few hours earlier was making us nauseous. I’m the first one to admit though, I love old logos and I totally want a t-shirt with that cool cowboy bucking horse the Broncos used last week and the old Saints logo with the little guy who looks like little Jack Horner. I just wish the NFL didn’t have to make us sit through 3 hours of vertically striped socks. I mean talk about torture.

Do you like Throwback uniforms?

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Yes some of those uniforms are ugly. the Jets and bronco’s lead the pack with ugly uniforms, but we forget that these uniforms are from a time BEFORE color televisions wide acceptance and affordability.

they will be trying to sell them those jerseys at a sports memorabilia and apparel store near you. Like I tell my wife, its all about marketing. It makes the world go around.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. The wearing of “throwbacks” is overdone by all the sports leagues. It’s a good idea, but this being “pro” sports of course it’s taken to the Nth degree. Doing a throwback night once every five years or more would be a good thing, but having throwbacks this often just ruins it.

  3. Drew, Regardless of how I think that you view a character or sports figure does not qualify me to stop being a fan like Richard stopped doing yesterday. We all have our opinions and takes of how things are supposed to be in the world. In the melting pot we all blend, thats what makes America beautiful. SJR I respect your view as well as the others on yesterdays cartoon. We ALL had some good points. Apologies to all who I offended and if you cant accept then maybe someone has a problem that goes deeper than an apology. Still a fan Drew, Regaurds Matthew.

I like the uniform from sunday except those damn striped socks!! Watching those socks last week, eeek! So its my understanding that the Broncos burned those socks along time ago? When you burn something it is not supposed to come back. Its like a Quija board that just keeps coming back! AACCCKK!!NOOOOOOOOO!! They were killing me to watch run up and down the field last week. So much for playaction, man it was like a elephant in a small room. Anyway, all votes for me to bring the Orange and Royal Blue back!! Im still into the Orange sundays….ahhh jeez where have they gone?!

  4. Matty – I wasn’t offended. Your sentiment means a lot though. It’s nice to be able to “spar” once in a while in a civil matter. I respect your opinion and your point of view. 🙂

We are all fans of Drew’s art and I think that’s what is most important. It’s also what makes art great!

As for the uniforms…I actually really liked the Broncos helmets. And I thought the jerseys were pretty OK too. It was the socks that killed it for me. Lol. No wonder they burned them. I had no idea they used to look like that.

I also really enjoyed the end zone diamonds and the retro scoreboard. All pretty cool stuff. Is it a marketing gimmick? Sure. But it reminds me of a time when football was just football – and that’s a good thing.

  5. Hey Everyone,

This is exactly the type of community I’ve been dreaming of. To have this back and forth but always civil discussions on topics and the world of sports in general.

    Drew

  6. I am with all the people who want to burn those terrifyingly ugly socks!! OMG… I had no idea just how hideous they were. Please, someone bring back the “orange Crush” uniforms the next time someone says “Retro”.
