Here’s to the Saints

NFL’s doormat no longer. This one goes out to all of the brave and courageous people of New Orleans, who have faced more adversity than any of us will ever know. It has bee a long time coming. Enjoy the journey, it’s long overdue.

A Secret

I guess it’s finally safe to come out of the closet. I was the only kid in West Texas to wear a New Orleans Saints jacket to school. This was in the heart of Dallas Cowboys country but I chose to root for the Saints and a young quarterback named Archie Manning. The Saints of course just got the crap beat of them game after game, and as I recall, so did I. Not a bright move wearing the Saints Logo on my sleeve. I eventually relented (after much violent coercion) and converted to the Cowboys. Soon I was the only kid in West Texas to cheer for Craig Morton over Roger Staubach. Bet you can guess how that went over. So yesterday I sat proudly wearing my New Orleans Saints hat as they marched into their very first Super Bowl. In the comfort of my own living room, thank you very much.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

What a great game. Its easy to cheer for the winners.

but cheering for the teams that are struggling takes a true fan.

the chiefs of the last few years are a good example of a team sliding on the ice of competition.

It should be a very good game when the saints meet the colts.

Drew may not make it to Miami but I bet he’ll be wearing beads and his Saints hat and

wishing he had one of O’Breins hurricanes during the game.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene

So, only your wife beat you yesterday? 😉

Congrats to New Orleans and Indianapolis and thanks for the great games!

  3. It was great that both games were entertaining and competitive. Really time for Bret to hang it up, he is a warrior, but how much of his future comfort is he sacrificing? And he should consider not putting his wife through this another year. Go Drew Brees, way to make Purdue proud and Phillip Rivers wet himself!

Did anyone notice that the four teams from the NFC left standing were all dome/roof teams? And the Super Bowl will feature dome teams? How long will it take for everyone to jump on the dome wagon?

  4. Drew, I can relate since I grew up in Shreveport, La. Though this is the 3rd largest city in the state of La., it was nonetheless Cowboy country. In the 70’s the Saints were seldom mentioned other than the gaffs that befell them. I wish I could claim to have been a Saints fan back then, but I was actually already a Steelers fan.

I am still a Steelers fan first and a Saints fan second. Thank goodness the Saints are playing the Colts and I do not have to make a difficult choice this year.

If reference to Sherri’s comment, I hope not about dome stadiums. I still believe football is designed to be played outside and on natural grass.

As we say here in Louisiana (I’m in Baton Rouge): Geaux Saints.

  5. that is Good stuff Drew.

    First off Go Broncos

And congrats to the Gulf coast and the new Orleans Saints !
