ELWAY. For Broncos fans there may be no more thrilling name than ELWAY. It rings out and is synonymous with winning. And so, today, as he stood at a podium at Dove Valley to take over as the Vice President in charge of Football operations, there was a feeling of incredible optimism felt throughout Broncos nation. And, you know, it felt good. Really good. because it’s been awhile since Broncos fans had that feeling. Oh, sure, there was the drafting of Tebow that brought a glimmer of hope, but nothing like the name ELWAY. I don’t know how it will turn out. I think well. Very well. But in the meantime, it’s a great day for Broncomaniacs. So relish it!

  1. I am so glad he is going to be in charge!!!! Going to take a couple of years but hopefully the team is back to where we the fans want it!!!!

  2. Drew,

This is awesome! I’m so tickled orange and blue right now, I could kiss someone! LOL As I mentioned on FB, I have no doubt The Barrelman is smiling down on Bronco Nation tonight. Thanks for capturing so well, what it is we all feel – that it is good to have John back in the saddle again. I think he is definitely going to lead the charge towards victory in the years to come, and I look forward to cheering him on!

    Peace,

    Peg

  3. The bottom of the hole does not look so deep anymore but it still is a long way back up. Hopefully the journey will begin on the right foot.

  4. Not to drop a rain cloud over Denver, but:

Michael Jordan running the Charlotte Bobcats

Brett Hull running the Dallas Stars

Diego Maradona running the Argentina National Team

Isaiah Thomas running the New York Knicks

Wayne Gretzky running the Phoenix Coyotes

Matt Millen running the Detroit Lions

Then, look at the people considered failures as players but legends as coaches: Phil Jaokson, Scotty Bowman, Tony LaRussa, Joe Torre, Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Jose Mourinho…Earl Weaver was right:

    “Bad Ballplayers make Great Managers”

  5. Dear Mr. Litton,

Badger does make a good point about great players being bad behind the scene’s or bench. however there is one important difference here. None of the players Badger mentioned had (as far as I know) any prior experience. Elway does have experiencein building a team and in his case from scratch. Now as I said yesterday the Colorado Crush of Arena Football League fame isn’t the NFL but he did make them successful with lightning speed.

By the way Badger I wouldn’t call Bill Torrea failure as a player.

Final thought Mr. Litton. YOu may want to consider this drawing to sell as a print like you did last year with the New Orleans “Who Dat!” drawing. I think it could be a big seller on several fronts. Just something to consider.

    All the best

  6. good morning from Omaha,

Wow, I guess I am late this morning! great cartoon Drew! the fans of the Bronco’s should pin this one on the wall right next to the 2011 bronco’s schedule. It will take time for the “team” to put that saddle back on the bronco;s. Some teams turn around faster than others depending on who is making the effort. The chiefs got lucky with Pioli, although Haley sometimes thinks he is better than he is.

Looking at your work this morning I can still hear Dick Enberg hollering “Ohhh myyy!!!” and “EEEEELLLLWWWAAAYYYY!!!!” As a chiefs fan ,that used to make me cringe but those words will hopefully return as the bronco’s make that climb back to the top!!!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  7. Great drawing, Drew! Another classic.

So glad Elway is finally back with the team. We’ve had too many who have tried to make the Broncos over into another Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots–we are not those teams–we are the DENVER BRONCOS! We have our own identity, we bleed orange and blue; and yes, a great portion of our identity is tied to John Elway, so it only seems fitting that a true Bronco helps bring the Broncos back to preeminence. So welcome back John–we still believe!
