First Class

This cartoon is in this months issue of the Colorado Rockies magazine. The Rocks first spring training At the Salt River Fields was a HUGE success. I loved Tucson, but the move to Phoenix will change the Rockies franchise for the better. No more 2 hour road trips to and from Tucson, no more leaving your Star players at home and even more important, they were getting other teams Star players as competition.

Have a terrific weekend everyone.

  1. Dear Drew,

Many of the baseball experts are saying this new facility is the reason that the Rockies have started off so well. In past seasons April has been a bit of a bug-a-boo for our Purple players. Of course the fact that our team is so loaded doesn’t hurt either.

I look forward sometime in the next few years to check out the facility. Especially since my older sister lives in the nearby area.

    All the best

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

If you have ever watched the College World Series you have seen Rosenblatt Stadium, home of the Omaha Royals. Omaha has built a new bigger ball stadium downtown by the Quest Center to house the CWS and as of now thats about it….

The Omaha Royals have become the Omaha Storm Chasers and have moved to a beautiful ballpark in Sarpy County called Werner park. It seats about 7,000 and is absolutely fan friendly. Its not a double decker or a triple decker want to be and there is not a bad seat in the house.

Rosenblatt could seat over 25k which is fine for the CWS but embarrassing when only 3,000 show up for an Omaha Royals game and the pacific coast league told the O-Royals as much, so now we in Omaha have two new stadiums that basically sit empty 9-10 month in a year. yep, everything is up to date in Omaha!!

We must have money coming out of our lower extremities or have lost our minds…we have a quest center we can’t make payments on, a hotel attached to the quest center that was sold to us as a way to get bigger and better conventions but it is only about 50% full ,if that ,anytime of the year and now we are being told we need to make the hotel bigger by a couple of stories to get even bigger and better conventions that never came in the first place. Plus because of the low occupancy rates we can’t make our payments on that money pit either.

We were told we could do all this building and there would NOT be an increase in taxes because all those tourists that come with all those conventions would spend all of their money in Omaha and we would all be fat and happy. OK as far as I an tell we are fat but not really happy about our financial future in the big O.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
