It’s REALLY getting old, isn’t it. Melo continues to want to be traded but only to the exact team of his choice, The Knicks, who either don’t have the resources to do the trade or they don’t want to, knowing they can get Melo for free at seasons end. Frankly, I’m sick of the selfishness. Selfish enough to drag Chauncey Billups through this mess, hold the entire Nuggets franchise hostage, and still manage to spit on the fans in Colorado in the process. Months ago I wrote about the LeBron deal and how it would be the complete undoing of the NBA. Players will only want to play with their friends, in the city of their choice, on their own terms, which can, and usually does mean, the coach they want. It’s a far cry from the NBA of old. I was talking with my wife, Marcia, over the weekend. I told her how much I really can’t stand the NBA and how doing cartoons about the whole mess is not exactly the thing I live for. This is a good reason why.

  1. Dear Drew,

First let me apologize for my comment yesterday. I did not know that your Thursday cartoons were also being done for a national service. In that light the Lance Armstrong cartoon WAS appropriate.

Today’s cartoon said it all. It was much better than the analogy I put out. I would find it funny if after all this stuff that if Anthony went to free agency nobody (not even the Knicks) would want to sign him to whatever contract he is looking for forcing him to come back to the Nuggets like a pouty child asking to be forgiven for his behavior and take a contract for less than he wanted.

Like I said I’d love to see that happen but I’m not so foolish as to think it will. I would just love it to see just once a player being taken to the financial woodshed.

    All the best,

    Louis

  2. Hey Louis,

No apologies necessary! Everything I do here is for all of you who take the time to stop by and read me. Your comment on Thursday was most appropriate and when you said you thought I’d do something on Melo, well, I thought if Louis says I should do something on Melo then, yeah, I should. It’s what feed back here is all about. Thanks for the great followup too. Honestly, the syndicate stuff can sometimes get me out of sync, with the very topical local cartoons, but it helps pay the bills ya know.

  3. Good Morning from Omaha,

The old saying about the buying the cow when you can get the milk for free-if there is a lock out it doesn’t matter. Melo can take his antics back to the playground.

You guys have a great weekend.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  4. Pro baskets, like the bcs, have gone the way of the buffalo for me. No interest, no caring. And it is looking like the NFL is going to be next. May soon be left with nothing but town team baseball but thats all right, at least egotism is at a minimum.

  5. It’s his right as an unrestricted free agent to choose where he wants to play. He will have completely fulfilled his contract with the Nuggets at season’s end, and made the franchise a lot of money in the process.

That said, it is things like this (and many others) that made me quit watching the NBA after MJ retired.

  6. Tomorrow’s cartoon should show the fans with mallets over the heads of Carmelo and Kroenke. Those two need to have some reality hammered into their heads by the fans.

  7. I can understand Melo wanting to go back to his home area, but surely even he can see that the Knicks are a full decade away from contending.

What’s worse, it detracts from some players who are famously happy in situations that have them far from home and in some cases joining a troubled team and sticking it out through the best and worst of times: Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan and even Kobe Bryant have become inseparable from their teams. In the NBA, which matches the NHL for player movement, those are remarkable stories.

  8. When the NBA games became nothing more than slam dunks and 3 pointers I quit watching. Melo needs a bigger head band to contain his ego.

  9. As I see it. You hit the nail on the head Drew. I know a little pun hehehe. Carmelo Anthony to me is done. Carmelo is like having a hot girfriend/Boyfriend that is going to leave you and you know it, you just can’t stop it. By the way Carmelo leave Chauncey Billups out of your drama. He is a class act for the City of Denver. Much better person than Carmelo has acted. I say for the Nuggets is they should of told him at the beginning of the season to stay away until your traded or you can leave at the end of the season. It has not been kind to see this team play well with him knowing he will be gone sooner or later. As always GO BRONCOS!!!
