  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

If all you had to do is beat every team in your division the hated raiders would be in the playoffs. do you really want that to happen. The teams knew the rules when the season started- I am sorry that the bucs and the giants did not get in but thems the rules.

The nfc worst is still in need of a champ and this year its seattle although TCU looked really good and might (ahem) be able to beat them.

if you want to change the rules you had better start now and in about 10 years you may see them change. change in the nfl is like watching a glacier move.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. They are definitely headed to the playoffs on a roll…the direction of that roll is certainly the wrong one. Did anyone watch that game last night, really, seriously, did St. Louis look like they wanted to win? Love the TCU comment, I think you are right, Gene.

  3. GMFO-

the chiefs, my team, are probably going to get eaten alive by the Ravens… the O-line was HHHOOOOORRRRRIIIBBLLLLEEE against the Raiders and the Ravens linebackers are so much better that if

the tackles don’t block cassel is going to get hurt.

The chiefs did it with a lot of smoke and mirrors this season. If they were not losing Weiss they might be able to build something but IF is a big word.

Watched the start of the TCU Wisc game and the end of the game. got to see “True Grit” in between while the team with real true grit beat Wisconsin!!!!

  4. Four-team divisions are a key part of the problem – it’s mathematically possible to win one with a 4-12 record. But then again, I’m of the school of thought that if you’re not the best team in your division, you shouldn’t be considered among the best teams in the league.

With 32 teams, the layout and alignment is pretty awkward. Contraction is almost out as there is an abundance of football talent and solvent teams. Expansion might be a possibility (four teams – I like LA, San Antonio, Las Vegas and Mexico City), but a 36- or 40-team league would be awkward – perhaps split into two leagues with no crossover play, a la Baseball.

Another answer could be switching from eight tiny divisions to four giant ones. The result would be four division champs that would almost certainly be considered league contenders and a field of wild cards.

The other answer is to do away with the postseason and simply crown the team with the best record as Champion…a move that would, for the sake of fairness, require a full and complete cross-league schedule of no fewer than 31 games – which would, even if the players would agree to it, a myriad of destroyed bodies and microscopic careers.

  5. Good discussion everyone. I’m not sure of the answer at this point. It’s the offspring of parity I’m afraid. The same can said for a team who goes 4-12 getting the 2nd pick in the draft. It’s a great thing for all us Broncos fans but not so great for the league as a whole. Most seasons we see 2-14 teams lined up like planes on the runway for a number 1 and 2 pick.

In the days ahead I hope we can talk about the draft. I’m counting the day(113 days if you are wondering)
