1. An excellent point (or two), Drew. But those brilliant people go about their business quietly and perhaps that is for the best. Bet bright lights and too many questions would be a huge distraction, so perhaps it is good that all that can be deflected elsewhere. And we can have our mindless distraction from the realness and harshness of life at times.

2. You’re so right Drew and it’s sad. I hate that these creeps and “stars” get so much attention but the kids who do something good in or for the world get little or no attention. I just wish I knew how to be a part of the change that is so desperately needed.

3. Spot on Drew – this kind of crap drives me insane and I wish there was at least some modicum of an attempt of balance.

4. Good Morning from Omaha,

   I guess Omaha is really a “small” town. Last weekend, in the sunday paper, they had an almost 16 page section of the best and brightest in Omaha, Southwest Iowa, and eastern Nebraska.

   It was just page after page of students who excelled during there high school years. It included pictures, biographies and even future plans including what college or school they plan to attend.

   They had a first team academics squad from Omaha and even a first team from Southwest Iowa. The paper does this every year and IF that makes Omaha a “small” town, I am sorry.

   Yes we have the athletes who get named to the first team of various sports but academics play a part in the lives of far too many high schoolers to be ignored.

5. Drew–

   This week has had a lot of college graduations in the Philadelphia metro area, so I’ve seen quite a few news stories about grads and their plans for the future. However, since cap-and-gown season comes only once a year (or twice, depending on the school), there is a limited “season”, if you will, for academics. It is what it is.
