The Monster Mash: LeBron

This cartoon that I drew for the Chicago Tribune last year is pretty appropriate about now. Except it appears as if Dallas might just be able to pull off the Monster Mash. LeBron really has gone from playing like this:

To playing much more like this:

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

what a great cartoon, drew! the king can be a monster, but a times seems a little streaky. Oh to be 23 and to have his abilities to play basketball. Honestly, I never had a knack for the game but my sister and brother earned scholarships with their prowess at the game.

its the best of three now, and all I can say is GO MAV’S!!!!!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Dear Drew,

This morning at about 1:30 I saw your cartoon (Couldn’t sleep) I spent almost the rest of the night trying to sleep but when I thought about Godzilla with “The Gecko” voice I started laughing and couldn’t sleep. I mention this only as a means of praise for the great cartoon you did.

  3. Dear Drew,

I’ve been thinking a lot today about Labron James and his disappearence in Game 4. I’m going to say something that might get me in trouble with a lot of people but when I finished explaining maybe people will still disagree but might at least see my perspective.

The main point is simple. “Labron James is overrated”!. There I’ve said it. Since he was drafted out of high school all I keep hearing about it “King James” this and “King James” that when he’s done nothing to deserve the title of “King” anything. He’s the (for the sake of example here) the “King with no clothes”

Think about it. What makes a good or great player a “Legend” It is coming up big when the spotlight is hotest. Moments like Magic Johnson who when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was injured played all 5 positions in a deciding game. Scored 42 points and singlehandedly won the game and thus the series. It’s Larry Bird whose shining star could only be elipsed by the star of Magic Johnson. Its like Michael Jordan, sick to his stomach. He took the Chicago Bulls on his shoulders, and hit the series winning shot against the Utah Jazz. I could give countless examples in other sports too but I hope you understand my perspective. This is why Magic, Bird, and Jordan while Labron is just a “very good player”. Until he does something climatic like the examples I mentioned above he is not worthy of the moniker “King James”.

I hope my words made sense.

    All the best

    Louis
