War is Over: something a little different

Today's cartoon for the Guadalupe County Communicator

I enjoy Christmas music. Mostly the classic stuff like Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Andy Williams. The new one by Cheryl Crow is quite good. And the one by Bebo Norman done a few years back is great as well. I love choral music this time of year too. Nothing like a huge choir in an equally huge cathedral singing “Silent Night” to get you in the mood. I’ve always love John Lennon’s song “Happy Christmas: War is Over” (and so this is Christmas and what have you done…) I think subconsciously it inspired today’s cartoon that I drew for this mornings Guadalupe County Communicator. I know. It’s not sports. But it says what I want to say about the wars we are fighting today. I just want everyone home. Peace on Earth. Good will toward men. I’ve included a few of my recent Christmas favorites from youtube as well. Enjoy. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

  1. Dear Drew,

First of all, I got my calender and almost got in trouble at work because I kept wanting to look at it. That is meant as a compliment to you. Between the main pages and the little inserts on certain days it was something I simply couldn’t keep my eye’s off of.

If you don’t mind a suggestion if you can do this. If you decide to do another calender perhaps you do various ones like “All Bronco’s” or “All Rockies”, “All Ave’s” “All college” A crazy idea but at this time of year where I work craziness is a common theme.

NOW TO THE CARTOON: I believe it was Shakespere who wrote “Brevity is the soul of wit” Well in today’s cartoon you were both brief and witty. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

    All the best

    Louis

  3. Yesterday morning, a C-130 plane returned National Guard soldiers to their families, here in Minnesota. Every time I learn of our military coming home, or being deployed, or having given the ultimate sacrifice of their life, I can’t help but get emotional. I wish those in harm’s way would come home. Bring them all home. Tonight, I am thinking of our military who have returned home from war as different people, than when they left. I’m speaking of those with PTSD, Depression, the physical wounds of damage from IEDs, gunfire, or bombs. Those, who despite serving our country with a willingness to die for all of us, who are left jobless, homeless, or estranged from their loved ones. A few days ago, a soldier who failed to return to duty, shot a police officer in the head. The soldier was upset about a failed relationship with a young lady. The police officer got her out of harm’s way, and was shot. He is fighting for his life at the Mayo Clinic. The soldier took his own life. We’ve got to do a better job of taking care of our military when they come home from war. We simply have to. Pray for peace among, and within, all peoples.

  4. So glad the troops (at least some of them) are home.

And thanks for the Holiday wishes. However…You forgot Festivus!
