Thank Goodness for Replay

Uncategorized

It’s almost game time. The hype is almost behind us and now it gets down the important stuff. Get the remotes ready. Batteries. Hot Wings. Cold beverages. Chips Salsa. And get ready the the Commercial Bowl!

I’ll be doing multiple cartoons again for the Super Bowl over at ESPN.com. I’m not quite sure of the format. I think the other cartoonist with ESPN, Kurt Snibbe, and I are supposed to each do a running commentary of some kind. I’ll let you know when I find out more later today (Friday). So check back over the weekend for details.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I am hoping for a lot of “hey! you’ve got to see this” moments during the commercials of the super bowl- and maybe a few during the game.

My beautiful wife claims she is a fan of football- she was not at a time in her life, before she met my family and me, but now she understands the game, thanks to my sons explanations, and we watch a lot of football, together.

the over under and christina aguilara’s version of the national anthem is 1:52- if you actually bet on this, YOU have a problem!

    enjoy your day.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Gene,

One of the writers with SI used to actually pullout a stopwatch for the national anthem during games. The record went to Marvin Gaye during one of the NBA all-star games. Marvin took it to new heights with a version over three minutes. People will bet on anything.

Have a great weekend my friend. I can’t tell you how many mornings you sustain me here at the blog. Thanks for your words of encouragement and your friendship!

  3. I remember a succession of blowout throughout the 80’s and 90’s, but the games have gotten much more competitive recently. You can point out parity, but the fact is the game itself has gotten more entertaining.

Sure, it’s almost more spectacle than game these days, but people wouldn’t glom on to something boring, right?

  4. GMFO-

as a side note I really enjoy the quips and quotes you post everyday. We should be out in denver again this spring- maybe then you can meet these people I keep referencing. they are real and not just figments of my imagination- I mean if I am dreaming- its been a wonderful almost 33 year dream and I would not trade a moment of any of it.

GO STEELERS!!! I have to say this- back in the day (1966-67) I lived in Rapid City,S.D. and before the ice bowl game between the packers and cowboys my friends and I went out to the back yard to play football but had to shovel the back yard first- so we could play football in the cold. Then of course I had to cheer for the chiefs- and they lost.

see you monday on the blog

    Gene
